Arts And Design Learning Assistant (Middle and Upper School)

Job Overview

The Arts and Design Learning Assistant for Dwight School Hanoi’s Middle and Upper School supports individual students, teachers, and/or classes in the teaching of the Arts (including Visual Art, Music, Theatre, and Media Arts) and Design, under the supervision of a teacher or another supervisor. The Learning Assistant for Arts and Design should possess a professional knowledge base encompassing various aspects, including: familiarity with artistic techniques and practices; understanding of design principles and processes; knowledge of onstage and backstage theater roles; and expertise in the maintenance of musical instruments. The Arts and Design Learning Assistant will be capable of fulfilling assigned duties independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Managing Classroom Equipment:

• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment to ensure that equipment, resources, and materials are set out on time as per instructions received and used safely.

• Collect, check, organize, and return equipment to stores at the end of lessons.

• Take care of equipment and materials, including basic cleaning, maintenance, and repair.

Supporting Students & Teachers:

• Assist the class teacher with learning activities while securing the health and safety of the students.

• Support whole classes, small groups, or individual students in accessing learning activities as directed by the teacher.

• Be aware of and support differences to provide all students with equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.

• Create a safe, secure, and stimulating environment by complying with policies and procedures relating to child protection health, safety, security, and confidentiality and reporting all concerns to safeguard students’ wellbeing.

• Support school events and showcase student excellence.

• Contribute to the school’s extra-curricular activities programme.

• Assist with teaching/administrative tasks and documentation related to MOET/DOET curriculum compliance, reporting, and regulatory requirements.

N.B.: These key responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Learning Assistants may be required to perform other related duties assigned by their manager, including additional roles that will depend on the individual’s background, interests, and the ongoing needs of the organization.

• Bachelor’s degree in Art/Design/Performing Arts Education or equivalent is preferable

• Fluency in English and Vietnamese

• An appreciation and desire to work with all types of learners

• Comfortable in the use of technology including Google Suite, Zoom

• Interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and professionalism to thrive in a collaborative environment

• Initiative and openness to receiving and giving feedback

• Strong desire to work with English learners and their families
