OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Dean of Students plays a pivotal role in promoting a safe, supportive, and inclusive school culture for students in Grades 6–12. The Dean serves as a key member of the school’s leadership team, supporting student development through proactive behavior management and consistent enforcement of school policies and expectations. This role involves close collaboration with faculty, counselors, administrators, and families to foster a positive learning environment that reflects the school’s mission and Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs).
The Dean works collaboratively with the Academic Leadership Team and the Student Support Services team to promote and maintain a climate that is conducive to student learning emphasizing mutual respect and safety. The Dean promotes good attendance rates and identifies students with attendance or disciplinary issues. The Dean addresses attendance and disciplinary issues and fosters a collegial relationship with staff pertaining to student conduct and discipline.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Culture & Support
• Promote a positive school climate that aligns with the school’s values, vision, and ESLRs.
• Monitor and support student behavior, attendance, dress code, and overall well-being.
• Responsible for mitigating student attendance problems and dress code violations.
• Implement and support behavior management strategies, including restorative justice practices, counseling referrals, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
• Collaborate with counselors and learning support staff to develop intervention plans for students needing additional behavioral, academic, or social-emotional support.
• Monitoring behavioral pull-out, student detentions (and in-school suspensions when applicable).
• Assists the division vice principal in maintaining standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere and effective participation in all activities.
• Plans and implements programs designed to develop student character and discipline in accordance with school standards.
• Creates and monitors student intervention plans.
• Actively provides follow-up student discipline in regard to teacher and administration referrals.
• Promotes positive behavior expectations throughout the school and administers student discipline consequences in accordance with the school’s disciplinary policy.
• Meets and confers with parents and school personnel in developing alternative solutions to student attendance and discipline problems and concerns.
• Assists with the planning and implementation of school programs such as student attendance/discipline, transportation, athletics, student government and others assigned.
• Circulates throughout the building regularly to promote and reinforce positive student behaviors and uses immediate feedback concerning student’s behavior.
Policy Implementation
• Ensure consistent enforcement of school rules, codes of conduct, and discipline policies.
• Lead investigations and manage incidents involving student misconduct, in coordination with the division Vice Principal and with the advice of the ALT.
• Provide training and support to faculty on classroom management and student behavior strategies.
• Coordinates the planning, development and revision of students and teacher handbooks, manuals, orientation materials and forms.
• Coordinates and plans for periodic Fire Drills on campus; adjusts procedures as necessary.
Communication & Community Engagement
• Serve as a key point of contact for student-related concerns from parents, faculty, and staff.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student issues, behavior expectations, and support plans.
• Facilitate parent-student conferences and meetings related to student conduct and well-being.
Leadership & Collaboration
• Participate in school leadership meetings and contribute to school improvement initiatives.
• Work with grade-level teams, advisors, and student support staff to ensure coordinated services and follow-through for students.
• Works with the Curriculum Coordinator to plan for and oversee MAP and AP Testing; works with the College Counselor to plan for and oversee PSAT/SAT Administrations.
• Help develop and support extracurricular programs, advisory sessions, assemblies, and student leadership opportunities that contribute to a positive school culture.
• Works closely with the operations Department to identify any health and safety issues on campus.
Yêu cầu công việc
• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required; master’s degree in educational leadership, Counseling, or a related discipline preferred.
• Have teaching or counseling experience at the middle or high school level; prior leadership or student support experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong understanding of adolescent development, restorative practices, and student behavior management.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in international or independent school settings is a plus.
