Developer, Day-2 Delivery (COBOL Program)

Job Purpose:

To develop, maintain, and support business-critical application built on COBOL – ensuring that it runs reliably, efficiency and integrate with other applications if needed.

Major accountabilities:

1. New development:

a. Developing new COBOL programs (both online and batch) to support new business functions and requirements.

b. Writing and performing unit testing

2. Application maintenance:

a. Fixing bugs, optimizing performance, and updating legacy COBOL programs

b. Ensuring application remains stable and compliant with business changes.

3. System analysis and documentation

a. Understanding complex legacy codebases.

b. Analysing existing programs to identify logic flow, data usage, and dependencies.

c. Maintaining technical documentation of programs, data flows and interfaces.

d. Supporting knowledge transfer for future maintenance.

4. Others (Support other tasks as required by supervisor and/or manager)

Technical skills:

o Good understanding on COBOL programming language

o Understanding on programming of online and batch programs.

o Understanding integration with other applications via MQ or similar.

o Understanding on programming with databases such as Db2/SQL Server…

o Basic knowledge of SDLC and DevSecOps.

Education and experience:

Education: University or college degree in IT or equivalent.

Experience: 0-4 years of experience in software development or equivalent educational background

Communication:

• Development Team Members (daily): Collaborate on code development, troubleshooting, and problem-solving; share knowledge and best practices for COBOL programming.

• Senior Delivery Manager (weekly): Provide status updates on projects and tasks; discuss challenges and seek guidance on complex issues.

• Business Analysts (as needed): Clarify business requirements for new developments or changes; discuss feasibility and technical constraints of proposed solutions.

• Tester/ QC (regularly): Coordinate on testing efforts and bug fixes; discuss test results and necessary code adjustments.

• Vendors or Third-party Service Providers (occasionally): Communicate about integration requirements or issues with external systems; coordinate on troubleshooting efforts for interfacing applications.
