Driver

The Embassy of Ireland, Vietnam, located in Hanoi, is seeking to recruit a Driver. This role will require strong driving and logistical skills, as well as flexibility. Given the sensitive nature of the work of the Mission, discretion and confidentiality is essential.

The work will include driving Embassy staff to meetings, events and briefings in Hanoi. It will also include occasionally driving Embassy staff to our key developments programme sites in other parts of Vietnam. The role also involves providing support to the Mission administration team, including basic administrative tasks. The successful candidate will work as part of a busy and flexible Mission team and will be a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual, with a proven capacity to multi-task.

The precise range of duties will vary over time according to the requirements of the Embassy. This role will include, but may not be limited to the following activities:

• Driving an Embassy car, transporting members of Embassy staff and others to their appointments and on official mission business.

• Driving an Embassy vehicle on field trips with Embassy staff to programme sites outside of Hanoi.

• Driving to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other locations (Embassies, offices etc.) to deliver Embassy correspondance and documents.

• Maintaining the official vehicle (bringing for regular services, washing and cleaning etc.)

• Keeping track of mileage, fuel, and toll expenses.

• Assisting with maintenance issues at the Chancery and Residence as required.

• Undertaking additional projects as agreed with the Ambassador and / or Office Manager, including minor administrative tasks.

• Any other tasks required to ensure both the provision of high quality customer services and the achievement of the Embassy’s goals.

Essential requirements:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Vietnamese (Applicants may be contacted in advance to establish language proficiency);

• Extensive previous driving experience;

• Clean and current driving licence, and highly competent driving skills;

• A very good geographical knowledge of Vietnam, particularly Hanoi;

• Able to exercise good judgement and decision making;

• A flexible attitude, good judgement and the ability to work effectively as part of a team;

• A high level of discretion, commitment and reliability;

• Ability to communicate professionally, effectively and efficiently;

• Excellent punctuality and time management ;

• Medical/Health checks will apply ;

• Availability to work out-of-hours and additional hours, as required;

• The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Vietnam prior to recruitment.

Terms and conditions of employment:

• The successful candidate will be hired initially on a twelve month fixed term contract, based at The Embassy of Ireland, Vietnam. Upon successful completion of this period the appointee may be offered a contract of indefinite duration, subject to Mission requirements and satisfactory performance.

• Annual Leave entitlement is 20 days per annum.

• Additional time off is available in lieu of additional hours worked.

• The salary for the position is USD $9,732.10 per annum, paid locally on a monthly basis. Salaries are paid direct to a Vietnamese bank account. Therefore the successful candidate must have a bank account.

Selection Process:

• Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a competency-based interview may be undertaken based on the Essential Requirements above;

• It is planned that interviews will be held in May, 2024;

• Candidates who are successful at interview stage will be required to complete a technical test and to undergo an eyesight exam;

• A second interview may be included in the recruitment process; and

• A panel may be set up depending on the calibre of candidates.

Security Clearance for Local Staff

Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful, this information will be destroyed. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position, they will be required to supply this information again
