About the job

The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of School or indeed to the Regional CEO or Safeguarding Manager - Asia so that a referral can be made accordingly to the statutory services.


Position Objective

The position of the Early Years Teacher (EY1-EY4) is to build and maintain a successful Early Years Education program within the school, through a Reggio-inspired learning through play approach, which supports inquiry, student agency and helps children in achieving their developmental milestones and emerging interests.


Relationships:

• Develop strong interpersonal relationships, which include trusting and effective relationships with all the children in the class, their parents and the wider community

• Establishing collaborative, supportive and positive working relationships with all other members of staff

• Becoming a presence across the whole school and a representative of it within its wider community


Educational Role:

• Co-construct learning with the child

• A belief that all children can learn

• Documenting learning journeys, capturing student voice through digital reporting, displays, parent conferences, Celebrations of Learning

• Collaborative planning and moderation - within teams, department, specialist and across the school

• Using observations of the child to guide planning and reporting

• Establish an environment where young learners feel safe, trusted and cared for

• Establishing routines, procedures which assist young learners in developing their milestones

• Ensuring the classroom environment reflects the school’s belief that ‘the environment is the third teacher’

• Teaching practices support the school’s Early Years Guidelines and Reggio Inspirations

• Learning engagements build on children’s interests, needs, and the concepts identified in our Units of Inquiry

• Understanding and acting upon the importance of the role of the parent in young learner’s development

• Positively work with parents in developing goals for their child

• Understand the role Learning Outcomes play in supporting the teaching and learning

• Develop intentional learning engagements, which align to school’s Early Years philosophy learning through play and supports children’s individual milestone developments

• Evaluate and assess learning outcomes, and the program of learning

• Effectively deploy and support the professional development of the homeroom Teaching Assistant(s)

• Use the school’s Restorative Practices to guide young learners social and emotional development


*** Extended professional role:

• Contributing towards the whole-school team spirit by taking every opportunity to promote the philosophy and policies of the International School Saigon Pearl;

• Taking responsibility for the class during times of emergency

• Undertaking duty of care


*** Parents:

• Coordinating parent meetings where appropriate to review a students’ progress

• Coordinating efforts of parents to assist with classroom volunteering duties or on excursion


*** General:

• To provide any other reasonable duties delegated by the School Management

• Be familiar with ISSP Health and Safety Policies and ISSP Safeguarding Policies

• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required

Position Requirements


*** Skills & Abilities

• At least 3 years of experience in working with children as an Early Years teacher with relevant qualifications including an Early Years Teaching Certificate.

• Curriculum development knowledge is required

• Possess highly developed interpersonal and teamwork skills.

• Excellent verbal and written English skills

• Able to effectively integrate technology into Teaching and Learning, as appropriate for Early Years learners.

*** Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master Degree in Education/ Early Childhood with teacher certification in the area of expertise

• A minimum of three years experience teaching English as an Additional Language

• School Environment

• Working hours 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, plus occasional staff meetings, trainings, parent evenings and open school days
