About This Role
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, BOQs, and tender analyses for multi-unit construction projects. This role supports cost planning, subcontractor procurement, and budget control from design to delivery. Working closely with project and technical teams, the Estimator ensures cost efficiency, compliance, and timely project outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Project Estimating
• Perform quantity take-off for multi-unit construction projects using software and manual take-off methods.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and budget estimates using Bluebeam and standard estimating tools.
• Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to identify materials, inclusions, and omissions.
• Obtain quotations and assess scope coverage; prepare comparison schedules for management approval.
• Issue purchase orders for approved trades and materials.
• Assist in maintaining the Bluebeam price database and standard cost libraries.
• Monitor project budget versus actual costs and provide variance analysis to management.
• Support feasibility costing and design stage estimates for new multi-unit projects.
Contract Administration
• Assist in the preparation and review of subcontractor agreements, scope documents, and tender packages.
• Participate in project briefing meetings with the Estimating & Technical Documentation Manager.
• Liaise with subcontractors to confirm rates, scope inclusions, and terms prior to finalising contracts.
• Manage and track subcontractor quotations, progress claims, and variations.
• Assist in the preparation of purchase orders and project cost breakdowns for material and labour packages.
• Support the administration of RFI’s, EOT’s, variations, and meeting minutes as required.
• Work closely with the construction team to ensure project budgets and delivery schedules are met.
WestUrban Subcontractor Management
• Maintain an up-to-date Subcontractor Register including licences, insurances, SWMS, and capacity information.
• Assist in pre-qualifying subcontractors for multi-unit projects based on compliance, capability, and capacity.
• Assist with procurement and negotiation of rates, ensuring value for money and alignment with project budgets.
• Liaise with trades and suppliers to obtain product information, negotiate pricing, and ensure selections align with budget requirements.
• Support ongoing performance review of subcontractors to strengthen supply chain reliability and quality.
Technical Support
• Assist in reviewing architectural, structural, and civil drawings for cost implications and design accuracy.
• Identify discrepancies between tender and construction drawings and prepare cost variation summaries.
• Provide estimating support during the design and documentation phase to ensure buildability and cost efficiency.
• Coordinate with the Technical Documentation and Project Management teams for project setup and documentation.
• Prepare supporting data and cost summaries for client reporting or internal presentations.
Continuous Improvement
• Adhere to and support the Business Management System (BMS) with commitment to HSE and Quality processes.
• Participate in estimating workshops and internal process reviews to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Proactively suggest improvements in templates, workflows, and data recording systems.
• Contribute to supplier relationship development and cost benchmarking.
• Collaborate with internal teams to share learnings from post-project cost reviews.
Yêu cầu công việc
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in construction estimating, preferably within multi-unit or townhouse developments.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam, Excel, and project management software.
• Strong understanding of BCA, NCC, and relevant building codes and standards.
• Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Positive and proactive attitude with a strong commitment to learning and teamwork.
