Import Manager

The Consol Import Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the importation of consolidated shipments, including cost management, selling rate determination, and achieving team targets. This role involves managing relationships with agents, developing new partnerships within the agent network, and ensuring that consolidated cargo is efficiently managed, from origin to destination. The Consol Import Manager works to optimize costs, drive sales into the company’s consolidated containers, and maintain compliance with all relevant regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Consolidation Management:

o Oversee the entire import consolidation process, including booking, shipment planning, and cargo consolidation at the origin.

o Coordinate with overseas agents and suppliers to ensure timely and accurate consolidation of goods.

o Manage the deconsolidation process at the destination, ensuring that all shipments are correctly identified, documented, and distributed to the appropriate consignees.

• Cost Management and Rate Calculation:

o Optimize the cost of import operations by effectively managing the consolidation process, including negotiating competitive rates for space and services.

o Calculate accurate selling rates for consolidated shipments, ensuring they are competitive and aligned with market conditions.

o Collaborate with the sales team to develop and implement strategies that encourage customers to utilize the company’s consolidated containers.

o Analyze freight costs, duty charges, and other related expenses to identify areas for cost savings and improve profitability.

• Team Target Management:

o Set and manage targets for the import team, ensuring that objectives are met or exceeded.

o Provide guidance, training, and support to the team to achieve performance goals.

o Monitor team performance, offer feedback, and implement strategies to improve efficiency and productivity.

• Agent Relationship Management:

o Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing agents, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

o Identify and onboard new agents within the network to expand the company’s reach and capabilities.

o Work closely with agents to ensure smooth operations and address any challenges that may arise.

o Regularly assess agent performance and explore opportunities to enhance partnerships.

• Compliance and Documentation:

o Ensure compliance with international trade laws, customs regulations, and industry standards specific to consolidated shipments.

o Handle all documentation related to consolidated imports, including House Bills of Lading (HBL), Master Bills of Lading (MBL), and customs declarations.

o Work closely with customs brokers to resolve any issues related to customs clearance and ensure accurate tariff classifications.

• Vendor and Partner Coordination:

o Develop and maintain relationships with freight forwarders, NVOCCs, customs brokers, and other logistics service providers.

o Negotiate contracts and rates with service providers to secure favorable terms for consolidated shipments.

o Monitor and evaluate the performance of vendors and partners to ensure service levels meet the company's standards.

• Operational Efficiency:

o Monitor and improve the efficiency of the import consolidation process, ensuring that shipments are moved in a timely and cost-effective manner.

o Implement best practices in logistics and supply chain management to streamline operations and reduce lead times.

o Coordinate with warehouse teams to ensure smooth handling and distribution of consolidated cargo upon arrival.

• Reporting and Analysis:

o Generate and analyze reports on consolidated import activities, including shipment volumes, costs, transit times, and compliance issues.

o Utilize data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement in the import consolidation process.

o Present findings and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Working Conditions:

- Office-based role with occasional travel to meet with logistics partners, suppliers, agents, and customs authorities.

- May require working outside of standard business hours to coordinate with international partners.

Experience & knowledge:

- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, or a related field.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in import management, with a focus on consolidated shipments.

- In-depth knowledge of consolidation processes, international shipping regulations, and customs procedures.

Skills:

- Strong negotiation skills and experience working with freight forwarders, NVOCCs, and customs brokers.

- Proven ability to calculate selling rates, drive sales into company-managed consolidated containers, and manage team performance.

- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

- Proficiency in logistics management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

WORKING TIME: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm from Monday to Friday & from 8:00 am to 11:30 on Saturday.
