GEMALINK is a Joint Venture between the Vietnamese company GEMADEPT Corporation and the French company CMA Terminals (CMA CGM Group). GEMALINK is building a greenfield container terminal in Cai Mep – Thi Vai area (Ba Ria-Vung Tau province). GEMALINK, a deep-sea port designed to welcome the world’s largest container ships, will open for operation at the end of 2020. GEMALINK is the biggest project of deep sea container port in Cai Mep – Thi Vai area with 72ha total area, 1,150m main berth and 370m feeder berth. The 1st phase (2020) includes 800m main berth for mother vessel, 260m side berth for barges and a yard of 33ha. The port capacity in the 1st phase is 1.2 million Teus per year. The whole project capacity is 2.4 million Teus per year (phase 2). GEMALINK has some competitive advantages: convenient location at the river mouth with the deepest draft for proper turning basin, the longest main berth, the only deep sea container port at Cai Mep - Thi Vai being designed with dedicated berth for barges to connect HCMC and Mekong Delta Area and the capability to accommodate 200,000DWT vessels and, last but not least, a strong cargo commitment from global carriers.
