Mid-Level Interior Designer (Hospitality)

I. ATTITUDE (Responsibility, Initiative & Team Growth)

A Mid-Level Designer must demonstrate the behavioral foundation of a future team leader, even while still operating under supervision.

1. Ownership & Responsibility

• Takes ownership of assigned areas/packages from start to finish.

• Demonstrates reliability in deadlines, handovers, and coordination tasks.

• Begins to anticipate potential issues and propose solutions proactively.

2. Communication & Collaboration

• Communicates clearly with teammates, senior staff, and cross-disciplinary consultants.

• Participates actively and respectfully in design discussions; able to justify design decisions.

• Open to feedback and demonstrates steady improvement.

3. Mentorship & Team Contribution

• Supports junior designers through basic guidance on standards, detailing, templates, and workflows.

• Contributes ideas to improve internal studio processes (templates, detailing library, coordination checklists).

• Acts with professionalism, maturity, and a positive “can-do” attitude.

II. SKILL (Technical Drawing, Coordination & Project Execution)

A Mid-Level Designer must demonstrate strong technical ability and begin managing detailed drawing packages independently, supporting project rollout.

1. Technical Drawing & Documentation

• Prepares accurate floor plans, RCPs, typical elevations, and joinery details for tender/construction.

• Converts concept direction into detailed technical outputs for submission and site execution.

• Leads detailed development for assigned room types or small public areas.

• Manages FF&E schedules, specifications, and sample follow-ups.

• Creates internal presentations, mood boards, and drawing layouts to explain design logic.

• Proficient in AutoCAD and understanding Revit for project documentation.

2. Coordination

• Interfaces with MEP, structural, lighting and QS consultants to ensure alignment in drawings.

• Supports Senior Designer in consultant workshops and technical reviews.

• Assists in reviewing vendor/shop drawings, mock-ups, and technical submissions.

• Assists in responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.

3. English Communication

• Communicates effectively in English across drawing notations, coordination emails, and meetings.

• Supports bilingual documentation where necessary.

III. KNOWLEDGE (Design Standards & Technical Awareness)

A Mid-Level Designer deepens technical understanding and expands awareness of multidisciplinary impacts on interior design execution.

1. Hospitality Standards

• Strong understanding of hotel operator guidelines (Accor, Marriott, Hilton, Aman, etc.).

• Familiar with brand standards, OS&E implications, and operational flow.

2. Code & Technical Knowledge

• Knows key local regulations: fire safety, escape routes, accessibility, wet area requirements.

• Understands how architectural and MEP systems influence interior layouts and detailing.

3. Material & Detailing Expertise

• Strong knowledge of materials, finishes, joinery systems, and durability requirements.

• Ability to resolve typical detailing issues (tile transitions, joinery interfaces, shopfitting details).

4. Multidisciplinary Awareness (not mastery)

• Understands basic logic behind: MEP routing, HVAC grille placement, electrical zones, acoustic considerations, structural constraints.

• Able to identify conflicts early and escalate appropriately.
