CJ HK Entertainment is a subsidiary of CJ ENM, a well-established conglomerate in South Korea with a history of over 20 years. CJ ENM operates under the diversified CJ Corporation and holds a prominent position as a leading film production in South Korea. With an extensive collection of over 300 domestic films, the company continues to expand its catalog by introducing 20 new titles annually. In addition to its dominance in the Korean film industry, CJ ENM has emerged as a premier Asian conglomerate in the realms of media and entertainment. Operating in the spheres of film production, distribution, and marketing, CJ HK Entertainment capitalizes on the wealth of knowledge, technological advancements, experience, and exceptional capabilities fostered by CJ ENM. This has been substantiated by its enduring history of over two decades, during which the company has thrived and progressed significantly. 2012: The CJ ENM representative office was established in Ho Chi Minh City and operated in the field of distributing Korean movies. The office introduced 22 Korean movies to Vietnamese audiences over the course of 4 years, with remarkable names in terms of the box office revenue, such as “A Werewolf Boy” (2012), “Killer Cartoon” (2013), and “Miss Granny” (2014). 2014: After 2 years of market researching in Vietnam and establishing industry connections, the company began to expand its business into film production and invested in the first project: Để Mai Tính 2. This movie became a phenomenon within box offices in 2014 and set a record of 101 billion VND in revenue with 1,5 million of tickets sold. January 2015: The representative office officially became CJ ENM Vietnam Co., Ltd. The film production department was formed with well-trained and experienced staff. In the same year, CJ ENM Vietnam surpassed its own previous box office record with the movie Sweet 20 (Vietnamese title: Em Là Bà Nội Của Anh) – the first project co-produced with HKFilm. The film earned 102 billion VND. 2017: CJ ENM Vietnam officially became CJ HK Entertainment – a joint firm between CJ ENM Vietnam and HKFilm. This is the result of successful and continuous cooperation since 2014, between the leading entertainment groups in South Korea and the top film production house in Vietnam, with professional producers, as well as modern photography and lighting equipment. Since then, CJ HK Entertainment has paid more attention to film distribution activities by expanding the distribution of many international films from all over the world, besides the ones produced by CJ ENM Korean. 2022: Mark the milestone when foreign films released by CJ HK Entertainment reached the top in terms of revenue from international movies in Vietnam: top 1 in Korean movie revenue (6/45 – 177 billion), top 1 in Thai film revenue (Love Destiny The Movie – 81 billion VND), top 1 Indonesian film revenue (Jailangkung – 11 billion VND). 2023: This is a booming year when CJ HK Entertainment spectacularly topping the gold chart with the top 1 highest-grossing movie of all time – The House With No Man (Vietnamese title: Nhà Bà Nữ) with 475 billion VND. This victory has contributed to strengthen the reputation and status of CJ HK Entertainment, and also boosted the theatrical film market after 2 dismal years of Covid. CJ HK Entertainment is also among the few entities capable of “exporting” Vietnamese films. The majority of films produced by CJ HK Entertainment are distributed to the international market. This not only generates revenue for the production house but also helps introduce Vietnamese films to audiences worldwide.
