Primary Support Teaching Assistant/ Nhân Viên Trợ Giảng

JOB PURPOSE
We are seeking a resilient, compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a 1:1 Support Teaching Assistant for a Year One child with additional learning and behavioural support needs. In this role, you will work closely with the year 1 team and learning support teacher to provide tailored support and guidance to ensure the academic and social development of the student.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Collaborative Planning:
• Work closely with the classroom teacher and the special education team to understand the specific needs and goals of the assigned student.
• Attend planning meetings (Year Group + Learning Support) and contribute to the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and learning strategies for the assigned student.
2. General Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
• Support the whole class during lessons, group activities, and classroom management.
• Assist the teacher in implementing lesson plans, preparing materials, and organizing the classroom.
• Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment and classroom culture for all students.
• Provide additional support to students with diverse needs as necessary.
3. Monitoring and Observation:
• Continuously monitor the assigned student's progress and behavior in the classroom. Be alert to signs that the student may need individualized support or intervention.
• Share observations and insights with the classroom teacher and special education team regularly.
4. Responsive 1:1 Support:
• Be prepared to intervene 1:1 with the assigned student when required, especially during moments of distress, confusion, or when the student's behavior requires individual attention.
• Implement strategies outlined in the student's IEP to address specific needs or challenges.
• To be alert to the pastoral challenges of assisting a student with special educational needs. Maintain a demeanour of patience, empathy, calmness, and care, at all times, when helping the student.
5. Flexibility and Adaptability:
• Be flexible and ready to switch between the teaching assistant role and the designated adult role as the situation demands.
• Be responsive to the changing needs of the assigned student throughout the day.
6. Confidentiality and Respect:
• Respect the privacy and confidentiality of the assigned student and their family.
• Demonstrate empathy, respect, and understanding towards the student's individual needs and challenges.
7. Professional Development:
• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities related to special education, classroom management, and best practices in teaching and supporting students with diverse needs.
• Set personal ‘success factors’ and submit to line-manager (Learning Support Teacher) for performance management review process.
8. Communication:
• Maintain open and effective communication with the classroom teacher, special education team, and other relevant staff members.
• Share relevant information about the student's progress and challenges in a timely manner.
EXPECTATIONS SPECIFIC TO THE ASSIGNED STUDENT IN YEAR 1
• To encourage independence and instill good individual academic skills.
• To assist the student in beginning his work.
• To provide 1:1 assistance and support for the student academically when required while still enabling him to work independently.
• To facilitate opportunities for the student to use break-out room in times of heightened emotional distress / frustration – using limit of 5 Minute Timer + Chill Box
• To always reinforce classroom expectations and praise positive behaviour.
• Instruct, remind, and encourage the student toward classroom activities explicitly and frequently.

Qualification/ Training:
- Vietnamese
- University graduate – Essential
Experience and Skills
- Familiarity with the International Primary Curriculum – Desirable
- Proficient in spoken and written English and Vietnamese – Essential
- Experience working with children in an educational environment – Essential
- Experience working with children who have special educational needs – Desirable
- Experience supporting and developing students with behavioural challenges - Desirable
- Good communication and organisational skills – Essential
- An ability to form and maintain caring and trusting relationships with children and young people. Particularly those who may struggle to form social relationships – Essential
- The ability to work as part of and contribute to a team – Essential
- Resilient, Compassionate, Caring, Patient, Good Collaborator and Communicator, Flexible - Essential
- Eager to develop their understanding of neurodiverse students in primary setting – Essential
