Process Engineer for PE Film Production

About the role:

This position is responsible for developing and optimizing the manufacturing process for plastic blow & extrusion products. The engineer will define pre and post extrusion processes to optimize efficiencies, yields and productivity in a fast-paced plastic tubing extrusion operation.

This individual will provide engineering support to production by troubleshooting extrusion processes and tooling, and by defining extruder and accessory equipment maintenance requirements. The ideal candidate will have some experience with supervision or management.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, troubleshoot and optimize extrusion processes.

• Problem solving, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

• Implement improvements to cost, productivity, and downtime while reducing scrap.

• Specify, select, and coordinate installation of automation and other auxiliary equipment.

• Train manufacturing personnel such as operators, technicians, and supervisors.

• Provide technical support for repair and maintenance of all extrusion equipment.

• Define pre and post extrusion processes to optimize efficiencies, yields and productivity

• Use process capability studies and other statistical techniques for identifying and eliminating sources of process variability.

• Work closely with the quality team to provide responses to customer complaints and coordinate long-term corrective actions.

• Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical equipment and process issues and provides technical leadership.

• Develops, writes, implements, submits and/or presents various technical reports and training materials and safety initiatives

• Work closely with corporate engineering on all new items for the plant, ensuring successful start to finish of trials.

• BA/BS in Engineering with typically 4+ years of applicable experience preferred, but not required in Plastics Process experience.

• Thermoforming and extrusion manufacturing process experience. Will consider blow or injection molding.

• Solid communications skills, both written and verbal, required.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and establish priorities.

• Recognized as a technical leader and key resource.
