Product Development Manager – Upholstery

We are seeking a highly motivated Product Development Manager to oversee the end-to-end product lifecycle for upholstery products. This role will ensure products meet big box retailer standards (e.g., Costco, Sam’s Club), while driving value engineering initiatives to optimize cost, quality and look. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge in furniture and upholstery engineering, combined with the ability to collaborate closely with factories and cross-functional teams.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead and manage product development for both motion and stationary upholstered furniture; sofas, accent chairs & bedroom collections. Ensuring engineering integrity and compliance with retailer standards.

• Collaborate, liaise, and negotiate with factories and suppliers to ensure quality, timelines, and cost targets are met.

• Continuously improve product design, safety, and performance standards in line with market trends and customer needs.

• Apply value engineering principles to optimize designs and achieve cost efficiency without compromising quality.

• Prepare and present detailed product reports, including development progress, costing, and technical documentation.

• Support the order process by ensuring smooth transitions from development to production.

• Minimum 5 years of product development experience, preferably in the furniture industry.

• In-depth knowledge of upholstery construction and materials, knowledge of mechanisms for motion seating is a big plus.

• Existing relationship with key factories and suppliers in Vietnam

• Proficiency in English (written and spoken). Chinese Language skills are a big plus.

• Prior experience working with Costco, Sam’s Club, or other major big box retailers is preferred

• Strong skills in Microsoft Teams, Excel, and other collaboration/reporting tools.

• Proven ability to work autonomously with excellent time management and organizational skills.

• Demonstrated success in managing product lifecycles from concept to retail delivery.

• Strong negotiation, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.

• Ability to balance technical details with commercial priorities to deliver successful products.
