Job Description

SECONDARY LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT (VIETNAMESE AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE)

Student Attainment and achievement
• Promote high standards of work amongst the students
• Manage any discipline issues that occur in the classroom
• Liaise with Middle and Senior Leaders regarding any students of concern
• Demonstrate good safeguarding practices and know the reporting procedures to follow in case of a Child Protection issue
• Liaise with the Learning Support Dept regarding provision mapping of Individual Education Plans for students
• Liaise with the EAL Support Dept regarding further support required for students
• Undertake training and guidance from the Vietnamese department and work independently to develop a pedagogical style in line with the rest of the school

Teaching
• Be a point of contact and provide pastoral care to students in your care
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop excellent lessons and schemes of learning
• Maintain high expectations for all students and work on the assumption that all students will be able to achieve beyond their current expectations
• Build strong relationships with students in your classes and use these relationships to enhance learning
• Plan interesting, learning-focused lessons
• Teach according to the needs of the students in the class, differentiating for varying abilities
• Have the ability to integrate technology across all subject areas
• Be ambitious and reflective across all aspects of teaching
• Share good practice with other colleagues and engage in a professional learning community to continually improve the quality of learning in the Vietnamese Department and the school
• Ensure effective communication with other teaching colleagues and Secondary TAs
• If required, attend annual residential trips, both inside and outside of Vietnam

Assessment
• Provide students with appropriate feedback that allows them to know their next steps for learning
• Provide progress assessment data as required by the Vietnamese Department and Senior Leaders for tracking purposes

Administration/Development
• Contact parents for academic or pastoral matters, including following up on reports, parent meetings, etc
• Play a full part in internal and external CPD opportunities including staff meetings
• Liaise with Subject Leaders to contribute to an annual Action Plan and resource requisition
• Be involved in the organisation and delivery of secondary and whole school events, festivals, House events, assemblies, special focus weeks and Parent led events, where appropriate
• Contribute to BVIS Weekly Highlights and blog posts
• Maintain good quality display in classrooms and public areas
which relates to the children’s learning
• Offer exciting Extra Curricular Opportunities that meet the needs of the student cohort
• Supervise students on a duty rota
• Be responsible for personal health and safety and know how to report H&S concerns
• Take into account the identified whole school developments for the year and work as part of the Vietnamese Team to implement any necessary changes and developments identified
• Any other reasonable task assigned by the Principal or Head Teacher

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Training
• Degree plus relevant teaching experience
• Recognised degree in Vietnamese Literature

Experience / Knowledge
• Good classroom practice and a willingness to learn and continue developing
• Understanding of effective teaching and learning theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children through classroom organisation, differentiation and learning strategies

Skills
• Able to teach with a language learning focus as part of a team
• Able to work as part of a team
• Flexibility to deliver different subjects as needed
• High level of IT competence
