Job Description

VinES belongs to Vingroup JSC, the largest non-state-owned enterprise has an immediate opening position for Senior Engineer for Organic Chemical Analysis. VinES is looking for a highly motivated and seasoned engineer to provide extensive knowledge and experience about organic chemistry to develop our cutting-edge battery cells. This position also requires a fundamental understanding of inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, electrochemistry, materials synthesis, and failure analysis. We are looking for a self-propelled person with the self-confidence to accept guidance and direction as needed.

*** Position Responsibilities:
• Serve as an internal expert on organic chemistry to perform critical interpretation of analytical data (fundamental phenomena, material properties and FMEA in lithium-ion batteries chemistry)
• Investigation of the electrolyte aging and battery material failure in Li-ion cells using GC/LC-MS and IC
• Develop GC/MS and LC/MS methods for the analysis of trace level compounds in the cutting-edge battery cells
• Conduct primary and/or complementary analysis using FTIR, Raman, NMR, XPS, ICP, UV-Vis and etc
• Develop analysis methods, validation, and sample preparation for accurate analytical characterizations
• Select, characterize, and validate materials and cell components (cathode, anode, electrolytes, separator, etc.)
• Plan, develop, and execute Design of Experiments for fabrication and testing of coin or pouch cell
• Plan and execute applied research experiments involving synthesis, modification, and characterization of battery materials in LIB application
• Analyze data and execute root-cause analysis of failures and develop the mitigation solutions based on the understanding of Failure Mode Effects Analysis
• Design experiments to test theories and execute with assistance of technicians and other engineers
• Manage and train engineers, technicians, and lab interns to assist with R&D activities
• Manage laboratory information systems by identifying needs and problems, recommending improvements, training employees, and maintaining security and confidentiality
• Collaborate with and/or supervise other scientists, engineers, and technicians on joint projects
• Operation, maintenance, and cleaning of laboratory facility & analytical equipment
• Documentation of experimental work; SOPs; analysis of data; presenting results; summarizing reports effectively
• Provide scientific support to R&D and QC
• Write a progress report to a manager regularly

Job Requirements

• MS (or BS with significant experience) in the Organic Chemistry, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, or closely related field
• MS + 5 yrs
• At least 3+ years of relevant professional experience or academic research experience
• Must have demonstrated experience and knowledge about applying fundamentals of organic chemistry in LIB materials or related fields.
• Proficient in the use of methods of instrumental chemical analysis, such as GC/LC-MS, IC, FT-IR, NMR, UV-Vis, DSC/TGA, Raman, XPS, KF Titration, and ICP-MS is essential.
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience in conducting GC/LC-MS experiments of Li-ion cells (including sample preparations such as liquid-liquid extraction, centrifuge extraction, solid phase micro-extraction)
• 1-3 years of hands-on experience with lithium-ion batteries
• Expertise and hands-on experience in operating and maintaining analytical instruments.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and execute independent and collaborative research projects.
• Demonstration of goal-oriented, hands-on, and innovative approach to problem solving.
• Co-authorship on one or more publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• She/he will be required to develop additional competencies, apply practical skills and knowledge to solving a variety of applied scientific and technical problems.

*** Additional Desirable Attributes:
• Experience of battery testing equipment is a plus
• Experience of electrochemical characterizations in lithium ion and/or solid-state battery is a plus
• Familiarity with complementary analytical methods, such as electron microscopy, diffraction, scanning probe techniques, or vibrational spectroscopies
• Hands-on experience in performing experiments inside controlled environments (glove box, dry room) is preferred
• Experience of designing and conducting organic synthesis and polymer synthesis to develop new organic/polymeric compounds with desired physical, chemical, and electrochemical properties is a plus
• Polymer characterization techniques, such as rheology, DMA, TMA, tensile testing, flexural testing, creep, fatigue, and chemical resistance testing is a plus
• Ability to perform statistical analysis using software (Minitab or other) and data processing automation (Python or other) is preferred.
