Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Track Structure (Ballast & Rail)

Job Purpose: You will take primary responsibility for researching, proposing, managing, and supervising all technical aspects related to the core railway track structure (including rails, ballast, and turnouts/switches) within high-speed railway (HSR) projects. Ensure that track structure solutions are designed accurately, comply with the highest quality, safety, and technical standards, and optimize operational performance and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

1. In-Depth Technical Research, Design, and Evaluation

• Design Documentation Management: Be responsible for drafting, verifying, and managing all technical design documentation (from Design to Execution phases) for track structure components. This specifically includes projects related to the replacement or installation of rails, ballast, and track devices (appareils de voie / turnouts).

• Technical Compliance Assessment: Review and evaluate the accuracy, feasibility, and technical compliance of design submissions from consultants/contractors, including technical specifications, cost estimates, track alignment drawings, and equipment installation diagrams.

• Optimal Solutions: Propose innovative and globally optimal technical solutions for the track structure, ensuring cost-effectiveness, safety, constructability, and long-term operational efficiency.

2. Supervision and Implementation Coordination

• Technical Supervision: Provide guidance and close supervision to contractors/consultants during the execution and construction phases of track structure works on site.

• Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate closely with other technical disciplines (Civil Works, Bridges, Tunnels, M&E, Signalling, etc.) to ensure seamless integration and synergy of the track structure solution within the overall HSR system.

• Risk Management: Identify technical risks related to track structure and propose timely corrective and preventive solutions.

• Meetings and Presentation: Participate in technical meetings, design reviews, and possess the ability to clearly and concisely articulate and defend technical solutions before stakeholders.

3. Consulting and Surveying

• Topographic Survey: Proactively execute or oversee topographic surveying (levée topographique) required for track design and installation.

• Inspection and Acceptance: Participate in inspection, acceptance, and final sign-off committees for track structure components.

Job Requirements

1. Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Railway Engineering, Railway Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Land Surveying (Topographie) or related disciplines.

• In-Depth Experience:

+ Proven, substantial experience in the railway sector, specifically in track alignment design, equipment installation diagram design, and preparing design packages for rail, ballast, or turnout replacement projects.

+ Priority given to candidates with experience working on electrified and modern/high-speed railway projects in roles such as Contractor, Consultant, or Project Owner/Investor.

+ Minimum experience in topographic surveying (levée topographique) is required.

2. Professional Skills

• Core Knowledge: Solid and comprehensive technical expertise in railway track infrastructure engineering (Ballast, Rail, Turnouts, Subgrade, etc.) and railway transportation systems.

• Software Proficiency:

+ Proficient in office tools (MS Office) and AutoCAD.

+ Familiarity with or proficiency in specialized railway design software is a strong advantage.

• Other Skills:

+ Excellent analytical, synthesis, and problem-solving abilities.

+ Ability to work carefully and accurately in data processing (input data, standards, revision requirements).

+ Strong coordination, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Good at English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) is mandatory.
