Senior Project Officer Improved Forest Management And Certification Project (IFMC Project)

Major Function:

The Senior Project Officer (SPO) is technically responsible for supporting the Component Lead and project team in implementing the Component “Improved Forest Management and Certification” (Outcome 1) of the Project.

The SPO will provide technical support to forest owners (forestry companies and smallholder groups) on sustainable forest management and FSC certification for production forests oriented toward the large-timber value chain in Quang Tri Province and Hue City, to ensure that the Project achieves its objectives and targets.

The SPO will take full responsibility for the technical and day-to-day administrative aspects of Outcome 1 under the Project and will ensure close collaboration among WWF projects, partners, and relevant stakeholders

Required Qualifications

• At least a bachelor’s degree in conservation, natural resource management, bioregional planning,

environmental sciences, forestry, or a related field. Additional training in project management is an

advantage.

• At least 5 years of professional experience in FSC forest certification (forest management and chain of custody) and community forest management.

• Good understanding of conservation and natural resource management issues in Viet Nam, especially in areas such as responsible forest management, forest rehabilitation, and forest certification.

• Working knowledge of the policy and institutional context related to forestry and natural resource

management in Viet Nam.

• Familiarity with the operating realities of government agencies, development partners, donor institutions, and the not-for-profit sector in the Project area.

• Experience in conducting studies and coordinating research activities.

• Experience working with government officials, local communities, and/or donors at different levels.

• Familiarity with the project area and local residence in Hue or Quang Tri is an asset.
