Your role
The Senior Technical Officer is responsible for all technical workshops and training for staff and students, ensuring they are well trained before using the Fashion Soft-lab. The role will ensure that all machines, tools, and teaching materials are well-maintained and well-organized in a good working condition for students and for demonstration by academic staff during their lab activities. This position also provides high-level technical support to staff and students in the safe operation and use of our equipment and facilities. This role requires demonstrated experience in operating and maintaining sewing and overlocker machines, embroidery machines, knitting machines, and digital printers.
Key accountabilities
Develop and deliver technical workshops and training for academic staff and students using the Fashion Soft-lab. Monitor the attendance and make reports to the School Leadership Team to ensure students and staff are well trained before using the equipment.
Conduct risk management assessments to proactively evaluate the physical environment of the Fashion Soft-lab facility on a regular basis.
Deliver technical support for preparation of the Fashion Soft-lab for practical classes and assist academic staff in the delivery of classes.
Provide high-level technical support and advice to staff and students in development, operation and safe use of the Fashion Soft-lab equipment (sewing and overlocker machines, embroidery machines, knitting machines, digital printers, and other equipment).
Create and maintain accurate manuals, records, procedures, and policies for equipment and facilities usage.
Develop and maintain equipment inventory; ensure that all equipment is in a ready, serviceable condition to aid the school’s educational and corporate objectives. This includes developing plans for regular preventive maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair.
Manage the Fashion Windows on campus, showcases, indoor and outdoor activities to ensure that all student works are properly displayed.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors for maintenance of equipment and for purchasing new equipment.
Cross-train and provide support coverage for the Maker Space & AV room when required.
Provide expert advice for procurement of new equipment, materials/components, as well as setting up of equipment/tools service contracts. Lead the evaluation of technology pilots and troubleshoot where necessary to ensure successful completion and deployment.
Provide regular reports and propose solutions to the School Leadership Team regarding equipment that needs to be repaired or replaced, inventory and process issues.
Collaborate effectively with the IT, OHS and Property Services departments to ensure a smooth integration.
Stay updated with the latest developments in relevant technologies and OHS guidelines.
Undertake other duties as directed by line manager.

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
At least 2 years’ experience in managing a Fashion Soft-lab or working in a relevant clothing industry.
Demonstrated experience in operating and maintaining sewing and overlock machines, embroidery machines, knitting machines, and digital printers.
Experience in Adobe photoshop and illustrator or willingness to learn is preferred.
Well-developed verbal and written English communication skills to provide excellent customer support to staff and students.
Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, resourcefulness, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision to ensure timely completion of tasks.
This position will be required to work on Saturdays to support staff and students during lab time.
Knowledge of the educational and fashion environment in Vietnam and the ability to effectively operate in it.
Knowledge of current Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and practices as well as relevant experience in their implementation.
Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, as per the RMIT Behavioural Capability Framework (Connectedness, Commitment to Excellence – Improve and Simplify, Imagination and Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Agility).
English Proficiency
The minimum requirement is IELTS with a score of at least 6.0 or 160 in Linguaskills.
