Soft Tool Designer

1. PURPOSE/MỤC ĐÍCH

The Soft Tool Designer is responsible for designing temporary or prototype tooling used in early-stage manufacturing, often for testing, validation, or low-volume production. Establish the blank development and support RFQ costing.

2. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/TRÁCH NHIỆM CHÍNH

The Soft Tool Designer focuses on creating non-permanent tooling solutions—such as prototype moulds, jigs, fixtures, and dies—that support product development and early manufacturing phases. Establish the blank development and support RFQ costing.

Key Responsibilities:

• 2.1. Design and develop soft tooling for prototyping and low-volume production.

• 2.2. Collaborate with product/ process/ production engineers to understand design intent and manufacturing requirements.

• 2.3. Create CAD models and technical drawings using software like Creo Element, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other software (Pro-E software, …). Unfold 3D models into 2D flat patterns for laser cutting process and inspection in-process.

• 2.4. Send the drawing to Engineering/ tooling manager for review and approval. Submit approval drawings to the document control department for system retention.

• 2.5. Conduct feasibility studies and simulations to assess tool performance and durability.

• 2.6. Support testing and validation of tools, documenting results and iterations.

• 2.7. Modify and improve tooling designs based on feedback from testing and production teams.

• 2.8. Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards during tool development.

• 2.9. Support the RFQ process definition and parameter calculation.

1. Educational Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Tool Engineering, or a related field.

2. Experience in years

1~3+ years of experience in NCT tool and die design. Good to have in stamping/ CNC machining, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

3. Related Industry Experience

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.

• Proficiency in using statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis tools.

• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. Pressure.

4. Language

Good at English, able to use basic Chinese for communication is an advantage.

5. Competencies

• Experience with CAD software and 3D modeling tools.

• Understanding the materials used in soft tooling.

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes in NCT, good to have in stamping and CNC machining.

• Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and engineering standards.
