Position: Technician

Report to: Technical Manager & Country Manager

A. Job purpose

Product Development on Upholstery products mainly from designing process, buying sample, gold seal samples, follow-up closely with QC team to make sure about the quality of upholstery products included piping, stiching, shape, construction and especially THE COMFORT.

To support BD team for finding the right suppliers as MFC or clients demand and developing new projects from design to delivery with quality standards as MFC or client requirements.

To support QC team in product quality standards at suppliers/factories.

B. Key areas of responsibility

1. Position needs to work closely with the following internal functions:

- Country Manager.

- BD team (BD Manager, BDs)

- TE team (TE manager, TE)

- QC team (QC manager, QC)

- Operations team

- Head office in UK (Managing Director, Compliance Manager, Operations…)

- Customers ( Depending on each situation – Normally with customer ‘s technologist )

2. Mission:

- The TE ‘s mission is to support BD team to develop the range successfully; to maintain good business relations with suppliers and customers; to ensure the factories and products are complied with customers ‘s requirements (Both in Technical and Ethical subject)

3. Summary of responsibilities:

- Workmanship and quality of products included in the product range areas.

- Constructional and technical solutions for new products based on given conditions.

- Improvement and management of the regular/running ranges.

- Product quality assurance in connection to move of an existing product to a new supplier.

- Document all product requirements in a product description (Technical description-TD).

- Make sure the product complies with valid laws and standards on the respective sales market (EU,

UK, US,...) e.g. EUTR for wood sources, UKFR for products with upholstery ( Leather, PU faux leather, fabric,…), E1 standard for MDF board on products for EU market,….

- Independently or as a team member, actively pursue product technical projects.

- Draw up time plans and ensure they are followed.

- Initiate/carry out basic ethical audits at new suppliers.

- Support suppliers in ethical/social/technical audit programs as BSCI, WCA, SMETA,…

- Claims handling if we are responsible (normally via emails from customers or MFC-UK Office)

- Work with suppliers/customers/colleagues friendly.

- Follow up production of samples.

- Participate in risk analyses related to new development projects (safety in use as gaps, holes, opening areas,...)

- Work out packaging solutions for each customer ‘s requirements. (Normal packing, Mail Order Packing,…

- Create and update technical description for each product range incl. all related documents (labelling, packaging, AIs,...)

- Support BDM (Business Development Manager)/Operation when we start-up of production of a new product or a new supplier.

- Book and follow up the tests of product (If any) as per customers ‘ requests as well as verification tests (home tests) at production start.

- Answer questions regarding technical issues from the customers/suppliers and all MFC departments.

- In connection to visits to the suppliers, look at both the product quality and the supplier’s environmental management system to ensure the finished product meets MFC customers’ requirements.

- Taking care and follow up running product range.

- Keep track of the development of new materials and production methods via courses (If any), fairs and visits to the suppliers.

- Participate in other projects as far as time allows.

- Always follow BDM in different range projects, until they can be hand over to the responsible QC team (including all documentation)

- To ensure products with a knockdown construction have been tested/checked assembly by persons outside of the team before production is started up.

- Solve problems or issues arising in daily work with suppliers/team members and customers.

- Report to Country Manager and ask for support if needed.

4. Authority:

- To utilize the necessary resources available within MFC to monitor the development of materials and amendments to laws and standards.

- To independently plan visits to suppliers.

- In connection to visits to suppliers, to take the actions required to quality assure the product.

- If serious quality defects are detected, together with QC team to stop production/shipment at the suppliers.

- Within the framework of the action plan, to arrange in order of priority and plan project tasks together with BDM/BDs.

5. Required Skills and Experience

- Team work, cooperativeness and experience of project work.

- Technical background related to production and/or design engineering of furniture products.

- Solid knowledge of the qualities and production possibilities of the most common materials as

wood, metal,….

- Good knowledge of the English language, verbally and in writing.

- Knowledge of technical calculation and technical drawing.

- CAD and PC experience (MS. Word, Excel,…) are advantages.

- Experience of customers ’ purchasing activities.(EU, UK, US).

- Open minded, proactive, goal-oriented, team working.

- Willingness for changes, intensive business travelling and high work pressure.
