Vietnamese Junior School Class Teacher

Duties & responsibilities:

The core responsibilities will include:

· Acting as Class Teacher of a class consisting of up to 20 students

· To liaise with their English co-teacher in planning an effective bilingual teaching scheme which supports the aims of the school and satisfies MOET requirements (Music, PE, and Art are taught by specialist teachers)

· Daily liaison with other staff such as TAs, ESL assistants and Junior School coordinators

· Responsible for organising the work of the teaching assistant and will share in responsibilities for curriculum development, display, performances, trips and organising some aspects of special events

· Fostering a caring atmosphere and showing commitment to the well-being and social and academic progress of each pupil

· Participating in and organising extracurricular activities, such as outings and sporting events (e.g. Sports Day)

· Offering at least one extracurricular activity after school

· Setting regular assessments with an awareness of each student’s capabilities and recording attainments

· Reporting and providing regular feedback on student’s progress to senior staff and parents at designated times in the term and year

· Act in accordance with relevant legislation in Vietnam, as well as UK guidelines, particularly with regards to educational provision, health and safety initiatives and safeguarding and ensure that all and staff maintain these standards

· Participating in regular in-service training (INSET) opportunities as part of continuing professional development (CPD)

· The successful candidates will plan and perform at the highest levels of academic and pastoral care

· Showing commitment to and embracing the NLCS ethos through understanding and living the core values of the school as stated through the aims of the school, both inside and outside the classroom

Safeguarding:

· Bringing to the immediate attention of the designated safeguarding lead and the Principal any significant pastoral matters, including any safeguarding concerns

· Abide by the school safeguarding policy and keep abreast of any changes

Professional qualifications:

· Teaching qualification in Vietnam (Bằng Sư phạm, ngành Tiểu học)

· Bachelor’s degree or higher

· Experience of implementing a range of pedagogical techniques, with a track- record of innovation in teaching and learning

· Recent participation in continuing professional development

· Proficiency in English (IELTS 6.0+)

Professional experience:

· Proficient and experienced in teaching, ideally with experience of the IB PYP

· Proven track record of outstanding teaching

· Recent experience of working with from a variety of cultures

· Commitment to issues of equity and working with culturally diverse families

· Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written

· Able to work positively and effectively with and parents, outside agencies and colleagues

· Committed to raising the achievement and standards of students

· Experience of delivering a broad, balanced and academically ambitious curriculum

· Have a good knowledge of curriculum initiatives

Specialist Knowledge and Understanding

· A commitment to an ambitious and inclusive education

· Ability to show good cultural understanding and differentiation between from various backgrounds and ability
