Position: Whole School PE Teaching Assistant
Reports to: Head of Whole School PE and Sports
Working hours: From 8.00AM to 5.00PM, Monday through Friday
Expected starting date: 01 Aug, 2025

JOB PURPOSE:
To assist the PE teachers and class teachers in the delivery of a bi-lingual, high-quality physical education and sport programs for primary and secondary school students.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS
General expectations:
- To be appropriately attired to ensure that the risk of injury to oneself or others is minimal (PE kit and trainers as a minimum).
- To stay with the class group for the entirety of each lesson (unless otherwise directed).
- Support the elements of competition, fair play, house system.
- Escort students to and from the toilet where necessary.
- Escort any ill / injured students to the relevant nurse, stay with the students if necessary and ensure that the student returns after treatment, or, if the students stay with the nurse, inform the class teacher.
- Help to provide a safe and engaging environment for students to learn.
- Assist the PE teacher in delivering high-quality lessons that align with the British curriculum.
- Support students during activities, ensuring full participation and engagement.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group assistance to students who need extra support. This does not necessarily need to be directed by the teacher.
- Help set up, supervise, and evaluate physical education drills, games, and sports activities.
- Swimming – It is likely you will need to manage a group (when qualified and safe to do so) and teach and engage them through the swimming certificates.
- Gym – Once inducted yourself you may be required to induct, support and educate students through safe practice and correct technique, replicating the health and safety and behaviour standards laid out in the induction.
- iGCSE – be aware of planning and assessment criteria and use your expertise to add value to the students performance and understanding where applicable.
- You may also be asked to help adapt activities to meet the needs of students with different abilities and backgrounds.
- Support students with special educational needs (SEN) or English as an Additional Language (EAL). Translation for the teacher is an integral part of the job and where translation is needed, communicate any needs that are not being communicated by students to teachers so that all students can benefit from understanding.
- Encourage and motivate all students to participate actively and confidently.
Swimming Expectations:
As above, with the addition of:
- Be aware of the lesson content in the pool and try (if safety allows) to engage any non –swimmers in appropriate activities on pool side.
- Assist with maintaining a safe environment in and around the pool area.
- Oversee any students who need to get out of the pool during the lesson (toilet, illness, injury, etc).
- Be aware that there may be, at times, a need to offer in –water support during lessons (wherever possible, this will be communicated in advance of lessons).
2. SUPPORT FOR THE TEACHER
- Coach and develop a school team in one of the three main sports of Basketball, Volleyball and Football. Experience and coaching badges will be a major asset.
- Setting up for or clearing up after lessons. Organise and manage appropriate learning environment and resources.
- Run sport clubs/ ECAs under PE team’s timetable.
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, equal opportunities, health and safety, security, confidentiality data protection and reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
- Follow the Code of conduct for behaviour at all times: Classroom guidelines (golden rules, Class Dojo, green/yellow/ red cards), level of noise; keep the classroom environment clean and tidy.
- Playground: whistle to tidy up/ freeze, using the toys properly.
- Corridor/ Lunch Hall: Be quiet and stay in line; Bell signal.
- Cover lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
3. SUPPORT FOR PARENTS
- Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers.
- Supply information relating to sport activities.
- Assist the student’s sign-up.
- Offer translation in P/T conferences.
4. SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL
- Understanding and adhering to the school's ‘Good Behavior Policy' alongside health and safety policies, as well as fixture and trip protocols and policies.
- Attend staff meetings, and other school events as deemed appropriate by the Head Teacher.
- Share and contribute to ideas within the school.
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the team and school
5. SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM
- Be involved in an evaluation process and in-service training aimed at improving your performance in your role.
- Deliver learning activities to students within agreed system of supervision, adjusting activities according to student response/ needs.
- Use ICT effectively to support admin and running of the departments curriculum.

Qualification/ Training:
- Vietnamese Citizen – Essential
- Degree/Diploma in PE pedagogy – Essential
- Familiarity with the International PE Curriculum – Desirable
Experience and Skills
- Competent English speaker– Essential
- At least 1 year’s relevant experience – Desirable
- Work constructively as part of a team – Essential
- Experience in coaching and improving team performance - Essential
- Experience of being part of a highly successful department and school – Essential
- Good classroom practice and interpersonal skills – Essential
- Working in partnership with parents – Essential
- Be able to engage and inspire new learners of English – Desirable
- Be open to ideas, to continued professional development – Desirable
- Excellent oral and written communication skills – Essential
- Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks - Essential
